Carly Wilkie fell in love with the solopreneur lifestyle after an early career opportunity to work on as a freelance designer for NUK USA, the baby care company. Today she loves showing up at baby showers to see her designs still prevalent on the guests' gifts for a new baby.
Carly is a member of the Madison JILLS Hub and rallies THE JILLS MEMBERS at the local Freelancers Union event on the first Wednesday of every month. You can connect with Carly in THE JILLS DIRECTORY where you'll find her contact information and learn more about her skills and talents.
Here Carly shares her story of launching her graphic design business, Sprout Studio.
"I've been designing since a very young age, finding projects to do and creating my own graphic designs. As a child I was DIYing my own t-shirts graphics, entering artwork for school event programs, and often making my own quote signs (still love to do today). Graphic Design was my calling, no doubt about that.
In high school in Waukesha, WI, I took all the art classes that I could, where I discovered I could do what I love and make a career out of it. What a brilliant idea! I enrolled at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, and graduated with a BFA in Art with a Graphic Design Emphasis. I owe all my success to my education and the professors there, I truly believe in their program and the skills I learned. I would recommend it in a heartbeat.
My independent career took off when I was hired as a freelance designer with NUK USA, the baby care company, where I worked on package design and illustration. This is where it all began... I fell in love with freelancing and started my company, Sprout Studio. I really enjoy working with a wide variety of people through my client base. I have done work for industries for retail, medical, wedding, construction, restaurant, and more. Through my job, I get to learn so much from so many companies, that every day is something new."
